A teaching of Esther Perel
A unique opportunity to meet, converse and learn from Esther Perel. To discuss current therapeutic topics with regard to relationship problems.
Which themes are discussed
Esther addresses three questions, dilemmas and uncertainties that you can experience as a professional, and how you can deal with them. In the coming weeks I will blog about my insights about this day. Below is an overview of the main themes.
Language & Culture
What influence do language and culture have on (system) therapy? When can language and culture differences between therapist and client hinder the therapy? How do you go there the best way?
Body-Focused Therapy
Is there a universal ‘body’ in body-oriented therapy? In other words, is there a body language dictionary? To what extent should you be aware of signals from your own body and how do you use them during a (system) therapy session?
Secrets and Confidentiality
Where secrecy (for example, if one partner is cheating or if there is a family secret) a higher priority than transparency? Why do therapists often have so much trouble with that?
Who is Esther Perel?
Esther Perel is a psychotherapist, much sought-after speaker and bestselling author. Her TED Talks have been viewed millions of times; her book Erotic Intelligence has been translated into more than 25 languages and her latest book Love in Relationship, a New Perspective on Loyalty and Infidelity is a New York Times bestseller.
Esther practices in New York and is producer and host of the couples therapeutic podcast series Where Should We Begin? and from Sessions, an online learning platform for relationship therapists, coaches and teachers.
Esther does not work from one method. Her approach is based on work by Scheinkman, Pinsof, Lebow, Fraenkel and Wachtel, among others. She combines action-oriented and insight-oriented techniques that have a strong foundation in system therapy with broader psychoanalytic theories, attachment theory, feminist and multicultural theories. Esther teaches you to master a step-by-step approach that you can apply in joint and individual sessions with your clients.
